Dr. Esther Kyungu

Esther Kyungu is a result oriented Public Health Physician and Medical Educator with excellence in patient centric approaches related to clinical and non-clinical services, and electronic tools to improve the quality of healthcare. She has expertise in vaccinology, pharmaceutical clinical development, medical education, infection prevention and control (IPC), mental health, sexual and reproductive health, adolescents’ health, tropical and travel medicine, good clinical practice (GCP), health research ethics, implementation research and project management.

She is a Lecturer and Deputy Executive Director (Planning, Administration and Finance) at the Tanzanian Training Centre for International Health (TTCIH) based in Ifakara. Esther is a seasoned health care professional, having held several senior and Board positions in the industry, including as the Core Member of the Tanzania Immunization Technical Advisory Committee (TITAC), and National Verification Committee (NVC) for Measles Elimination, and as well as a Board Member of Health and Allied Sciences Subject Board of the National Council for Technical Education (NACTE). She has provided national and international consultancies such as to design a competence-based Clinical Officers’ curriculum for the Tropical Health and Education Trust (THET) in Somaliland.

Esther is currently leading a national taskforce to developing a competence-based curriculum for a Higher Diploma in Clinical Medicine. She is coordinating a project funded by the Botnar Foundation and jointly implemented by TTCIH, Camara Education (Tanzania) and Overseas Development Institute (ODI) based in the United Kingdom, to address mental health needs of Tanzanian adolescents through the co-creation and application of digital and non-digital technologies and approaches. She is also managing TTCIH-Novartis Familia Nawiri Project aiming to strengthen primary health care for early detection and sustainable quality care management of non-communicable diseases (NCDs), eye health, sickle cell disease, epilepsy and leprosy in Tanzania.

Esther studied Medicine at Muhimbili University of Health and Allied Sciences (Tanzania) and she is a Vaccinology and Pharmaceutical Clinical Development graduate of Siena University (Italy).
